Proverbs 21 for Wisdom

Living Words

Psalm 24

A Psalm by David.

The earth is Yahweh’s, with its fullness;
    the world, and those who dwell in it.
For he has founded it on the seas,
    and established it on the floods.

Who may ascend to Yahweh’s hill?
    Who may stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart;
    who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood,
    and has not sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive a blessing from Yahweh,
    righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is the generation of those who seek Him,
    who seek your face—even Jacob. Selah.

Lift up your heads, you gates!
    Be lifted up, you everlasting doors,
    and the King of glory will come in.
Who is the King of glory?
    Yahweh strong and mighty,
    Yahweh mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
    yes, lift them up, you everlasting doors,
    and the King of glory will come in.
Who is this King of glory?
    Yahweh of Armies is the King of glory! Selah.

Joshua 18

Joshua said to the children of Israel, “How long will you neglect to go in to possess the land, which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given you?

Mark 8

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.  For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?  For what will a man give in exchange for his life?  For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in his Father’s glory, with the holy angels.”

I Corinthians 5

I wrote to you in my letter to have no company with sexual sinners; yet not at all meaning with the sexual sinners of this world, or with the covetous and extortionists, or with idolaters; for then you would have to leave the world. But as it is, I wrote to you not to associate with anyone who is called a brother who is a sexual sinner, or covetous, or an idolater, or a slanderer, or a drunkard, or an extortionist. Don’t even eat with such a person. For what do I have to do with also judging those who are outside? Don’t you judge those who are within? But those who are outside, God judges. “Put away the wicked man from among yourselves.”

Proverbs 21

To do righteousness and justice
    is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice.
A high look and a proud heart,
    the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit;
    and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.

Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor,
    he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

He who loves pleasure will be a poor man.
    He who loves wine and oil won’t be rich.

A wise man scales the city of the mighty,
    and brings down the strength of its confidence.
Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue
    keeps his soul from troubles.

There is no wisdom nor understanding
    nor counsel against Yahweh.
The horse is prepared for the day of battle;
    but victory is with Yahweh.
